Where are all the Lightening Bugs this year?

Some call them lightening bugs, June bugs, fire flies - I'm just wondering where they've all gone? Here in the midwest we start seeing them by the end of June and they continue thru the month of July. But I notice a lack of them this year. Could it have something to do with the 17 Year Cicada's we had here last month? I always loved sitting outside and watching them twinkle after the sun set, but this year, I can count them on one hand. Oh well, I just hope Global warming isn't to blame. Do kids still collect them in jars with lids that have been punched with holes? If so, I hope they do like I did and set them free before they retire for the evening.

Hmmm...I thought we had plenty in the city. But now that you mention it, there were more in Michigan when we visited a few weeks ago. My lil one was running all over chasing them.

welcome to the blogosphere!

Thanks for the welcome Veronica! Not only are the lightening bugs scarce but I haven't seen a Japanese beetle yet and that is a good thing. They're harmless but kind of obnoxious.
