The Rebirth of Victoria Magazine

Dear Friends,

What a delight to discover that one of my favorite magazines will be published again. Victoria Magazine was one of the most beautiful, lovely periodicals that I ever subscribed to. I have every issue from their first in the spring of 1987 (when I was a newlywed) until their demise shortly after Sept. 11, 2001. It broke my heart that Hearst stopped publishing it but of course there are still some lovley magazines similar to Victoria such as Romantic Homes, Southern Lady and even Paula Deans new magazine - they are all very charming. That is why I was so happy to hear that the publishers of Southern Lady and Paula Dean are bringing it back to life. Hoffman Media, run by Phyllis Hoffman, is a top notch quality company so I have great expectations that they will be a huge success. I've already reserved my subscription with the first issue due in November of this year. Please, if you were a devoted fan of Victoria, go to their website and sign up for a subscription today. Ladies, we need to give them our support and encouragement. Thanks ~

The Color Purple

Dear Friends,

Is anyone else a "purple freak"? I'm not sure if it's the pre-menopause mode I'm in or the fact that I've avoided the color purple since childhood ( my mother did my room up in all shades of purples when I was a little girl, including the canopy bed, dressing table skirt, curtains, you get the picture.) Now that I'm all grown up, purple looks "fresh" to me. So much in fact that I bought cans of Rustoleum spray paint in "grape" and sprayed all the outdoor iron furniture purple, I sprayed baskets that I filled with purple and lavender petunias, even the bird houses in the yard have been painted various shades of the hue. I'll try to post a current picture of the front porch all done up in purple in the near future. Everyone who comes to visit comments on how lovely it is. I've even taken to wearing the color and dare I admit it? Yes, I painted my nails "grape" to go with a new outfit. I thought at this point in my life I was supposed to be joining the Red Hat Ladies. I wonder if there are any Purple Hat Societies out there? If not, I may have to start one.

Where are all the Lightening Bugs this year?

Some call them lightening bugs, June bugs, fire flies - I'm just wondering where they've all gone? Here in the midwest we start seeing them by the end of June and they continue thru the month of July. But I notice a lack of them this year. Could it have something to do with the 17 Year Cicada's we had here last month? I always loved sitting outside and watching them twinkle after the sun set, but this year, I can count them on one hand. Oh well, I just hope Global warming isn't to blame. Do kids still collect them in jars with lids that have been punched with holes? If so, I hope they do like I did and set them free before they retire for the evening.

Blogging - A New Adventure

Well fair people, this is my first time blogging and I must say it's been painless so far. Blogger.com has made it fairly easy to design this website. I hope you will make a cup of tea and join me for a conversation on current events, fond memories and anything else that may come to mind such as gardening tips, hobbies and collections you enjoy - the possibilities are simply endless. Welcome, make yourself at home and enjoy!
